Neon Stache (neonstache.com) is a retro gaming blog that goes with the Neon Stache YouTube channel. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it.
Short version: I collect as little as possible, I don’t sell your data, and you can ask me to delete yours anytime.
What I collect
When you just read the site. Like most websites, the server records basic technical info (your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit) to keep the site running and secure.
Google Analytics. I use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which posts they read, and how they found the site. It uses cookies and collects info like your approximate location (city or country level), device, and browser. I see this as totals and trends, not as individual people. Google’s privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can opt out with Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
When you create an account. To comment, you need a free account. That means a username, your email address, and a password (stored encrypted). Your email is never shown publicly.
When you comment. Your comment, display name, the time you posted, and your IP address and browser info (used for spam protection) are stored. Comments are public once approved.
Profile pictures (Gravatar). If you comment, a scrambled version of your email address may be sent to Gravatar, a service from Automattic, to check whether you have a profile picture there. If you don’t, the site shows a default retro avatar. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy.
When you email me. If you write to hello@neonstache.com, I keep your email and message so I can reply.
Cookies
Cookies are small files your browser stores. This site uses them for:
- Logging in: keeping you signed in to your account
- Comments: remembering your details if you choose
- Analytics: Google Analytics, as described above
- Embedded videos and affiliate links: see below
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works, though logging in needs cookies.
Embedded YouTube videos
Posts include videos from my YouTube channel. Embedded videos behave as if you visited YouTube directly, so YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect data about how you interact with the video, especially if you’re signed in to a Google account.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. When you click one, the store you land on (like Amazon or eBay) may use cookies to track that the visit came from this site. See the Affiliate Disclosure page for details.
Who else handles data
I don’t sell or rent your personal information. A few services help run the site and may process data on its behalf:
- Namecheap / EasyWP: website hosting and email
- Google: Analytics, Search Console, and YouTube
- Automattic: Gravatar profile pictures
- Amazon: affiliate link tracking through the Amazon Associates program
- eBay: affiliate link tracking through the eBay Partner Network
How long data is kept
- Comments: kept indefinitely so conversations stay intact, unless you ask me to remove them
- Accounts: kept until you ask me to delete yours
- Analytics: kept according to Google Analytics retention settings
Your choices and rights
You can ask me to:
- Send you a copy of the personal data the site holds about you
- Correct anything that’s wrong
- Delete your account, comments, and personal data
Email hello@neonstache.com and I’ll take care of it. Depending on where you live (for example, California or the EU), you may have additional legal rights, and I’ll honor those requests too.
Kids
This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, email me and I’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If the site adds new features (like a newsletter), I’ll update this page and change the date at the top.
